From the Basement
Basement Is Now on Chrome. Every Tab Just Became a Live Room.
The Basement Chrome Extension adds live chat rooms, DOM stickers, GIFs, and a follow system to every website you visit. No invites. No sign-ups. The URL is the room.

Basement Is Now on Chrome. Every Tab Just Became a Live Room.
TL;DR: The Basement Chrome Extension brings our social layer to desktop. Domain chat rooms, live presence, stickers on the DOM, GIFs, follows. Same hidden layer. Now on every screen.
The Browser Has Been Silent for 30 Years. That Changes Now.
5.6 billion people open a browser every day. They visit the same pages, read the same articles, shop the same products. They do it alone.
We built Basement to end that. The iOS app proved the idea. Thousands of rooms. Hundreds of people browsing together. Real conversations happening on real pages.
Now the same social layer lives inside Chrome.
No new tab. No separate app. Install the extension, and every URL you visit has a room. See who else is there. Talk to them.
Domain Chat Rooms
Every website gets a live chat room. Visit amazon.com, and you're in the Amazon room. Open a blog post, and you see what people reading it right now are saying. No invites. No sign-ups for individual rooms. The URL is the room.
Messages support threaded replies, so conversations stay organized even when the room is active. React with emoji. Mention people with @. The full social toolkit, on every page.
DOM Stickers
This is the one people don't expect. Drop emoji stickers directly on page elements. They anchor to the actual DOM, so they stick where you put them, even when the page resizes. Other Basement users see them.
Think of it as spatial annotation for the web. Mark up a product listing. Leave a reaction on a specific paragraph. Tag an image. The stickers persist across sessions and across users.
GIFs in Every Room
Send GIFs inline in any domain chat room. Search, pick, send. They render right in the conversation thread alongside text messages, reactions, and replies. Because sometimes a GIF says what words can't.
Follow People Across the Web
Every person on Basement has a profile: avatar, username, bio, accent color. Follow people to stay connected. See where they browse, what rooms they're active in.
Click any username in the chat or presence list to view their profile and follow them directly. Build your network across the entire web, not inside a single app.
Everything Else in the Box
The extension ships with the full social layer from day one. Beyond the features above, that includes live presence indicators on every page showing how many Basement users are on the same site, real-time emoji reactions that stack on messages with visibility into who reacted, threaded replies to keep busy rooms organized, @mentions that trigger Chrome notifications even when the sidepanel is closed, user profiles with customizable avatars and accent colors, and an unread badge on the extension icon so you never miss a message.
What's Coming Next
The Chrome Extension currently ships the full social layer. Chat rooms, presence, stickers, GIFs, reactions, profiles, follows.
The agent layer is next.
Baseling, the personal AI agent that watches the room, learns your habits, and acts for you, is being built into the extension. Price monitoring, deal finding, web research, page watching. The same agent capabilities from the iOS app, now on desktop.
The social layer makes the agent smarter. The agent makes the social layer stickier. That flywheel is the product.
FAQ
What is the Basement Chrome Extension?
The Basement Chrome Extension is a browser add-on that adds a social layer to every website you visit. It creates live chat rooms tied to each domain, shows who else is browsing the same site, and lets you drop persistent stickers on page elements.
Is the Basement Chrome Extension free?
Yes. The extension is free to install and use from the Chrome Web Store.
How does Basement's domain chat work?
Every website automatically has a room. When you visit a URL with the extension installed, you join that domain's room. You can send messages, reply in threads, react with emoji, mention other users, and send GIFs. No invites needed.
What are DOM stickers in Basement?
DOM stickers are emoji that you place directly on elements of a webpage. They anchor to the page's structure, so they stay in position across window resizes and browsing sessions. Other Basement users visiting the same page can see them.
Can I see who else is browsing the same website?
Yes. The extension shows a live presence indicator on every page with the count of active Basement users. Open the sidepanel to see the full list.
Does the Basement Chrome Extension include AI agent features?
The current release focuses on the social layer. AI agent capabilities powered by Baseling are actively in development and coming soon to the extension.
What browsers does the Basement extension support?
The extension is built for Google Chrome using Manifest V3. It works on any Chromium-based browser that supports the Chrome Web Store.
How is Basement different from Discord or Reddit?
Discord and Reddit live in separate apps. You leave the page to find the conversation. Basement puts the conversation on the page. The context is the URL itself.
